A Solid Foundation

What is “A Solid Foundation”?

“Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: ‘The Lord knows those who are his’, and, ‘Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness’.”
2Timothy 2:19 (NIV – UK version)

It has been said that people treat Christianity like a streetcar. They hop on board only if it’s going their way. Some in Christianity seek only like-minded friends, or to carry on family traditions, or to be respected. Others treat it as a spare tire, to be used in case of an emergency. Some think of it as a philosophy debate club. But besides salvation and freedom from sin by the blood of Christ and our own obedience in faith in Christ (John 3:16), repentance of sins (Acts 3:19), confession that Jesus is the Son of God (Rom. 10:910), and baptism for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38), Christianity is where a human being is conformed to the divine nature of God(2 Pet. 1:5).

Christianity demands moral purpose. The Bible promises to motivate us to obtain and maintain the fruits of the Spirit by the motivations contained in it; these coming by warnings, admonitions, exhortations, illustrations and precepts for living; for God’s word not only saves us, it is proof of His love.

Materialism creates a fool’s paradise. Men seem to be determined to destroy themselves and wreck the world. Sin is a form of insanity. When the prodigal son left home for a “far country” where he wasted his heritage in the pursuit of sinful pleasures, it is said that he “came to himself.” He “came to his senses.” He came to himself and therefore had not been “at” himself.

This world needs to be set in order. The major problem is a little three letter word, sin. Sinners need a Savior. A return to God and his Word would solve the world’s crisis. But, the Bible tells us that will not happen until the very End Times, when all will be made new, a new Creation, the old being made to pass away.

To this end, we want to convert the world to Christ, but conversion is an individual matter and is done one person at a time. The soul that is saved saves another. The greatest number ever added to the Lord’s church at one time, was 3,000 souls on Pentecost (Acts 2:3840). The Lord added those who had repented and been baptized for the remission of their sins.

If we hope to reach the world with this message of salvation we must begin with the self. Are we faithful? Are we living a righteous life? Have we been born of water and the Spirit? Are we really following the Lord? Are we spiritual leaders in our homes, workplaces, schools, churches – setting the example for our families, co-workers, fellow students/teachers and members of our congregations?

When the liberal theologians of today start altering God’s pattern, they all talk of adapting to cultural situations, new moralities and the mood of the moment. They regard the Bible as little more than a “love letter from God”, replacing the necessity of obedience to God. Every person does “what seems right in his own eyes”

We are being told that if the church is to survive, it must enter the market place, put on a show, entertain the crowds, and water down the message. Excuse me, if I don’t accept this assertion.

In this age of change and rebellion against any authority – whether it is civil or religious, we should recognize that there are some things that never change. Human nature has never changed. Sin is still sinful and the penalty is still eternal death and damnation (Rom. 6:23). Our Savior does not change (Heb. 13:8). The appointment of death is certain (Heb. 9:27). Hell still exists to punish the wicked (Rev. 21:8). Heaven is still the home of the righteous where sorrow is unknown (Rev. 21:34.) How dare the “change agents” tamper with God’s pattern!!

God’s Word is immutable and the ONLY “Solid Foundation”, and that is the precept upon which this blog is based.

Well said and it and to borrow a phrase the truth will set you FREE… we must do all we can to make sure we are living the way God approves. One of the things that we as humans have in common is ‘free will’..that is the one original sin we are born with and die with..it is the one thing that we use and abuse a lot.. we need to be careful as remember..God does not make deals..it’s His way or the hell way.
